A new Commission on Astronomical Heritage!
The IAU’s new Commission (C.C4) on World Heritage and Astronomy is due to be created on Thursday August 13 at the IAU’s 29th General Assembly in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. The first business meeting of the new Commission will take place on Friday August 14. See the General Assembly Programme for further details.
The Commission will replace the Astronomy and World Heritage Working Group and this website will become that of the new Commission.
A three-day Focus Meeting at the
29th IAU General Assembly
Honolulu, Hawai‘i, August 11–13, 2015
This meeting will review achievements to date, discuss some of the most challenging current issues in the assessment of different types and categories of astronomical heritage, and evaluate progress with three projects focusing on particular potential World Heritage List nominations.
The closing date for abstract submissions is March 18.
Working Group sessions at the IAU General Assembly, Beijing, 24 August 2012
At the IAU’s 28th General Assembly in Beijing, the Working Group held its triennial Business Meeting, hosted the public launch of the Astronomical Heritage web portal, presented the 9 “extended case studies” of astronomical heritage sites prepared for UNESCO’s Astronomy and World Heritage Initiative, and co-hosted a Science Meeting on the Conservation and protection of different categories of astronomical heritage—common issues.
